Bed Bug Central's Holiday Charity Provides Relief From Bed Bugs

Bed Bug Central partnered with  bedbugFREE members across the nation to donate more that $40,000 in bed bug services to charities and those in need this holiday season.

 

Lawrenceville, NJ— This holiday season Bed Bug Central partnered with six pest management firms from across the U.S. to donate more than $40,000 in bed bug treatment services to those in need through, Taking the Bite Out of the Holidays, their annual holiday charity.

 

Taking the Bite out of the Holidays, was created by research entomologist, Jeff White of Bed Bug Central, a free information resource to the public and pest professional concerning bed bugs and bed bug related issues and treatment methods.

 

White created the holiday charity after seeing first hand how difficult it can be for non-profits and individuals in need to obtain effective bed bug services.

 

“Having dealt extensively with bed bugs, we know they can be very difficult and expensive to eliminate. We also understand there are many people out there that simply can’t afford effective treatment,” said White. “This holiday season we wanted to give back to the community and provide some relief to those in need so that they could use their money to create a happier holiday without the frustration of bed bugs.”

 

In order to reach as many needy individuals and charities as possible, Bed Bug Central enlisted the help of its bedbugFREE network, a network of like-minded companies that agree with philosophies and treatment methods of Bed Bug Central. Six of the membership companies partnered to make the inaugural holiday charity a national event. 

 

The cumulative result of the participating bedbugFREE members resulted in charitable bed bug treatments taking place in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York City, Chicago, New York State, Pennsylvania, Oregon and Washington.

 

Together participating companies donated $40,000 in labor, products, treatments and services to homeless shelters, non-profit organizations, homeowners, and the elderly. Donated services included installing insect interceptors, applying heat treatments to facilities and infested furniture, chemical treatments and public health educational seminars.

 

One charitable recipient, the Coordinated Homeless Outreach Center (CHOC) in Norristown, PA had been battling bed bug infestations for more than a year with no success. The director of homeless shelter, Genny O'Donnell, was excited to bring some relief to her clients after receiving the charitable service.  

 

“The treatment was a huge success! Our occupants are not being bitten for the first time in a long time and they are getting a good night’s sleep,” said O'Donnell. “We also received excellent information on prevention to make this treatment last. It’s going to make a world of difference going forward.”

 

The event’s success has prompted Bed Bug Central to continue the Taking the Bite Out of the Holidays charity as an annual event and is hoping to expand the number of participants to create a larger impact.

 

“We’re energized coming out of this holiday season knowing that we were able to create a positive impact in people’s lives and offer some relief,” said White. “I am personally grateful to all the PMPs that donated their resources to make this charity so successful. Based on the turnout, we plan to make this an annual event with even more participants next year.”

 

Pest Management Firms that made the charity possible:

 

Cooper Pest Solutions—provided bed bug treatment services for the Red Cross and the Coordinated Homeless Outreach Center in Pennsylvania. The homeless shelters received heat treatments, insect interceptor installations, and chemical treatments.

 

Buffalo Exterminating—worked with a Christian mission in Buffalo, NY that provides meals for the homeless. They inspected and treated infested beds for bed bugs. They will also perform a follow up service that will inspect and treat 150 sleeping units and will utilize insect interceptors, steam and chemical treatments and vacuums. 

 

Parkway Exterminating Company—worked with the Isaacs Center in New York, NY to provide an elderly immigrant with a bed bug treatment, mattress encasements and insect interceptors. 

 

A-Alert Exterminating Service, Inc.—worked with the Little Brothers of the Poor Elderly program based in Chicago. They provided bed bug services for an elder with limited mobility. They prepared the unit for treatment and preformed a chemical treatment.
